Coronavirus: Infection Toll Surpasses 171,000 as Iran Records 2,364 Additional Confirmed Cases

Iran reported some 2,364 new coronavirus cases within the last 24 hours, raising the tally to 171,789 , the Radio Farda quoted country’s health officials on Sunday.

Addressing to media, Kianoush Jahanpour, a spokesman for the Iranian health ministry, said that within the last 24 hours, 2,364 infections were recorded in different provinces of Iran, bringing the total infections to 171,789 in the country.

The country’s toll of fatalities from coronavirus reached 8,281 as 72 more patients lost battle for their lives, said the ministry spokesman, Jahanpour.

A total of 648 new confirmed patients have been hospitalized, said Mr. Jahanpour, adding that it shows a rise in the number of patients hospitalized compared to the past few days.

Globally, at least 399,025 people have died from COVID-19 and 6,903,774 have been infected by the novel coronavirus that causes it, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in last year’s December.
