Coronavirus Global Update: Worldwide Death Toll Nears 400K

As many as 6,734,591 people have been reported infected with the coronavirus pandemic globally and 394,887 have died, according to the John Hopkins University coronavirus tracker.

The figures announced by JHU indicate that a total of 1,897,838 people have been infected with the coronavirus across the United States, while the data brought the country’s total deaths to 109,143.

In Brazil, which has now the second highest number of coronavirus cases, the total of confirmed infections have risen to 614,941, with 34,021 fatalities.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro threatened to withdraw Brazil from the World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday unless it stops being a “partisan political organization,” Reuters reported.

Russia, the third country with the highest number of infections has so far registered 431,715 coronavirus cases and 5,208 related deaths.

Russia is then followed by the United Kingdom with a total of 281,270 cases of infection as of today and 39,811 related deaths, a second country with largest number of coronavirus deaths.

Then it is followed respectively by UK (284,734), Spain (240,978), India (236,657), Italy (234,531), France (190,180), Peru (187,400), Germany (184,924), Turkey (168,340), Iran (167,156), Chile (122,499) and Mexico (110,026) with more than a hundred thousand cases of the novel coronavirus.
