Addressing a press conference, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR), said that the Afghan government is ready for the intra-Afghan talks; the Taliban should seize the opportunity for the Afghan peace.

Dr. Abdullah, meanwhile, hailed the Afghan government and the Taliban’s three-day truce over the Eid holiday, saying that a continued reduction in violence and ceasefire which would create a good opportunity for the start of intra-Afghan peace negotiations is needed.

In his remarks, he thanked the international community and the neighboring countries, urging their further cooperation in the Afghan peace process.

Under a political agreement inked between the Afghan President Mohmmad Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, a high peace council under the name of “High Council for National Reconciliation” was formed and efforts are underway to allow it start working.
