President Ghani Orders Afghan Forces to Shift to Active Offensive Position

May 12 (The Killid Group) — Following the recent attacks in several provinces of Afghanistan, the Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in a televised speech ordered the Afghan forces to shift from defensive position to active offensive position.

After a series of dead-dealing assaults in Laghman, Kabul, Nangarhar and other provinces of Afghanistan, the Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani held a televised speech and condemned the recent attacks.

He ordered the Afghan forces to shift from defensive position to active offensive position and resume their attacks against the Taliban militants.

President Ghani said in his remarks that the Taliban insurgents have denied calls for a reduction in hostilities and have been surging their attacks despite a peace pact struck on late February.

He reiterated that a call for ceasefire shouldn’t be implied as the government’s weakness, but rather shows its commitment to the peace and ending war in the conflict-racked country.

President Ghani’s remarks came after several attacks were carried out in the country, as today a number of armed assailants stormed a maternity hospital in west of Kabul city followed by a suicide attack in the eastern Nangarhar province, leaving dozens killed and injured.

The armed Taliban, however, issued denial to claim responsibility for Tuesday’s attacks in Kabul and Nangarhar provinces.

Earlier on Monday (May 11), at least six Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed and five wounded as the Taliban militants attacked a security and defense forces outpost in Alishing district of Laghman province, according to a statement by the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

Afghan forces have remained in active defensive positions since Feb. 29 following a peace deal and calls for reduction in violence, and they have not scaled up considerably major operations against the armed group.

The war-ravaged Afghanistan has already been shaken by a health crisis, a delay in starting peace negotiations with the armed Taliban and a political turmoil between the Afghan leaders stemmed from the year’s presidential elections.
