Afghanistan Likely Facing Health Disaster in Wake of COVID-19 If People Break Measures Taken

May 10 (The Killid Group) — Officials in the Afghan ministry of public health said they have always been concerned over citizens violating the curfew/lockdown.

Dr. Wahid Majroh, the Afghan deputy health minister, said addressing to media on Sunday that the country has not reached the peak of its coronavirus outbreak, and that lifting lockdowns leads to a catastrophe.

His remarks comes as recently the northern Balkh province has announced it is easing lockdown restrictions for ten days in the province.

Munir Ahmad Farhad, Balkh governor’s spokesperson, told The Killid Group reporter that based on a decision made by a COVID-19 commission to fight the novel coronavirus in the province, as well as based on the residents’ demands it was announced to roll back restrictions.

He reiterated another lockdown would be imposed if cases spiked again due to breaching the guidelines.

There have been also concerns that coronavirus samples are being lost in laboratories, but the deputy health minister acknowledged 99% of the positive test results are announced in a timely manner.

According to the data provided by health ministry, the total new confirmed infections in the country has jumped to 4,402, with a total of 120 deaths and 558 recoveries.
