Coronavirus Updates: Afghanistan Records 2,171 Confirmed Coronavirus Cases

April 30 (The Killid Group) — The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Afghanistan rose to 2,171 on Thursday after an additional 232 infections were confirmed in the country.

Afghan health authorities said that over the past 24 hours, 232 more coronavirus cases were recorded in the country, bringing the infection toll to 2,171.

Addressing a press conference, a Deputy Minister for Healthcare Service Delivery of the Afghan Public Health Ministry, Dr. Wahid Majruh, said on Thursday [April 30] that the new confirmed cases of coronavirus include 45 in Kandahar, 41 in Balkh, 34 in Herat, 20 in Kabul and 12 cases of infection in Ghazni province.

He further added, 10 confirmed cases in Paktia, 10 in Logan, nine in Panjshir, eight in each Samangan and Takhar, seven in Kunduz, and five in each Baghlan and Nangarhar were reported in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, four cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Badghis, four in Maidan Wardak, three in Laghman, two in each Paktika and Parwan, and one in each Sare Pol and Faryab were reported in the last 24 hours, Majruh continued.

So far, with three deaths from the illness (two in Herat and one in Kabul), the total fatalities has now jumped to 64 while 260 have recovered, Majruh added.

Cases in Afghanistan have been gradually increasing despite the imposition of a lockdown in the country.
