House of Representatives: U.S. Pullout of Troops from Afghanistan Will Have Dire Consequences

April 29 (The Killid Group) — Members of the Afghan House of Representatives (Wolesi Jirga) believe that U.S. decision to pull back all its troops from Afghanistan is in contrary to a bilateral security pact signed between the two countries.

As reported by media, the U.S. President Donald Trump has pushed his advisers to pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan amid concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

But members of the Afghan House of Representatives slammed Trump’s decision, saying his “irresponsible” move is breaching a security deal struck between the United States and Afghanistan, and will have dire consequences for the war-racked country, region and the world.

The United States has signed a bilateral security agreement with Afghanistan, which allowed thousands of American troops to remain in the country, said Ali Akbar Jamshidi, an Afghan parliamentary member on Wednesday’s plenary session at the Wolesi Jirga.

He stipulated that the U.S. decision to pull out its troops is not necessarily amid fears over the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak; nonetheless, there were secrete annexes to the peace pact signed between the United States and the Taliban on February 29, he continued.

Meanwhile, Zalmai Mujadedi, a member of the Parliament representing Badakhshan province, is confident the United States supports the Taliban insurgents by Pakistan’s spy service to help equip and finance them.

According to him, by reaching a deal with the armed Taliban, the United States is now directly aiding them. He further added, signing a treaty with the Taliban, the U.S. wants the group to seize power so that it could pursue its main objectives in Afghanistan.

After the debates on this move, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mir Rahman Rahmani, instructed the International Affairs Commission of the House to seriously pursue the issue of the withdrawal of American forces, and called on the authorities that the parliament would like to hear from them.

The U.S. move to withdraw its troops comes as, nonetheless, the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) reached between the United States and Afghanistan permits the U.S. and NATO troops to stay “until the end of 2024 and beyond.”
