Coronavirus Update: Global COVID-19 Death Toll Exceeds 200,000

April 26 (The Killid Group) — Global deaths linked to the coronavirus has exceeded 200,000 while confirmed cases of the virus has hit nearly 3 million around the globe.

At least 201,833 people have died from COVID-19 worldwide and 2,890,208 have been infected by the coronavirus pandemic, following an outbreak that started in Chinese central city of Wuhan, in early December.

More than half of the fatalities have been reported by the United States, Spain and Italy.

The Untied States is the most heavily-impacted country, having lost more than 53,000 lives to the pandemic while Europe remains the another worst-affected part of the world with 119,483 total fatalities.

The U.S. on Sunday reported a total of 937,209 infections while the deaths toll in the country hit 53,693, according to a tally by Reuters.

Ithe meantime, the World Health Organization has warmed in a scientific brief that there is “currently no evidence” that someone cannot be infected for the second time.

“There is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from COVID-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection,” it read.

Countries such as Chile and Germany announced plans to give “health passports” to patients who have recovered from COVID-19, but WHO cautioned against this practice, saying that recovered patients can be reinfected.

COVID-19 first emerged in Wuhan, China, in late December 2019 and was declared a global pandemic three months later
