April 11 (The Killid Group) — The total number of coronavirus cases in Afghanistan has jumped to 555 on Saturday, while that of deaths hit 18, according to fresh data released by the country’s health officials.

Waheedullah Majruh, the Afghan health ministry adviser, confirmed that there were 34 new active coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide total to 555.

According to Majruh, the new cases over the past 24 hours include 8 infections in Herat, 8 in Kabul, 5 in Kandahar, 5 in Balkh, 4 in Nimroz, 2 in Maidan Wardak and one case of infection in each Ghor, Badghis and Baghlan provinces.

Majruh further added that the total number of people infected with the virus, 18 have died of illness while 37 others have recovered.

The number of cases increases day by day; officials in the Afghan government, however, have been scrambling to contain the disease by appealing to the public to remain inside homes and go out only in cases of emergencies.
