April 9 (The Killid Group) — The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen on Wednesday announced a nationwide ceasefire for two weeks starting on Thursday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The decision came in response to a call from the Untied Nations to halt the military operations; instead, focus on the ways to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Last month the UN Secretary General António Guterres called on those in Yemen to cease fighting and ramp up efforts to counter a potential outbreak of the coronavirus.
The ceasefire will be implemented for two weeks, could possibly be extended, media reported.
The Saudi-led coalition has been fighting against Houthi forces aligned to Iran since March 2015.
