Coronavirus: World Bank to Grant USD 100M for Afghanistan

April 4 (The Killid Group) – The World Bank approved a $100.4 million grant for the Afghanistan COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness Project in a bid to help Afghanistan take “effective” measure to respond to the pandemic.

In a statement, the World Bank has declared a USD 100M emergency funding for Afghanistan to slow down the COVID-19 outbreak.

According to the statement, the package will cover all 34 provinces in Afghanistan which will be mainly used for supporting “infected people, at-risk populations, medical and emergency personnel as well as service providers, medical testing facilities, and national health agencies.”

The World Bank has agreed to fund for the poorest countries, “in the amount of $100.4 million, of which $19.4 million is provided from the World Bank’s COVID-19 Fast-Track Facility,” the statement further read.

The project will be implemented by the Afghan health ministry supported by UN as well as other service providers that already work on under “Sehatmandi project”, the statement added.

The statement comes as, according to the latest data provided by health ministry officials, the infection toll from the deadly viral illness has reached 299 in the country.
