April 2 (The Killid Group) — The Taliban announced on Wednesday they will stop war in territories of Afghanistan under the group’s control if they are struck by COVID-19 pandemic.
“If, God forbid, the outbreak happens in an area where we control the situation then we will stop fighting in that area,” the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told The Associated Press.
Earlier, The Associated Press news agency said in a report, quoting the Taliban’s spokesperson that the group was ready to declare a “ceasefire” in the areas under the Taliban’s control if the coronavirus spread the area.
But later in a tweet, Zabihullah Mujahed said that stopping the war does not mean “ceasefire”, calling it a “misconception”.
Health officials in the Afghan government, on the other hand, has welcomed the decision by the Taliban and emphasized the need for cooperation to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
