March 31 (The Killid Group) — The infection toll from COVID-19 in Afghanistan has now reached 174, according to the data provided by the Afghan health ministry.

Health officials in Afghanistan have announced four new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) over the past 24 hours, taking the toll to 174 in the country.

The southern Kandahar province has reported two confirmed cases, while Daykundi and Nimroz each have reported one confirmed case of the pandemic, said the health ministry spokesman Waheedullah Mayar.

Herat, which marks the country’s mostly-affected region has so far recorded a total of 131 confirmed cases of COVID-19, Mayar added.

Amid the rapid spread of coronavirus in the country, the health ministry has been working to improve its testing capacity in a bid to better control the spread of the virus as it inaugurated a testing laboratory in Kabul and earlier in the eastern Nangarhar province.

The contagious coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19 which first emerged in China’s central city of Wuhan has now spread to almost every continent and has killed thousands of people, mostly in Italy and Spain.
