Saudi Arabia Shuts Mosques amid Coronavirus Fears

March 18 (The Killid Group) ─ Saudi Arabia has announced that mosques will not be open anymore for the customary five daily prayers or Friday congregation in a bid to control the spread of coronavirus, state news agency SPA said yesterday.

The prayers will continue only at the two holy mosques in Makkah and Madinah, the holiest places in Islam, the source added.

This was after it recorded 38 new cases of the coronavirus as at Tuesday as the total number infected rose to 171.

Coronavirus officially named COVID-19, broke out in Wuhan, Hubei province of Central China in December last year.

At least 7,176 people globally have died from COVID-19, as the illness is officially known, while more than 180,000 infections have been confirmed in at least 140 countries, according to the World Health Organization.
