(TKG) – Nineteen Syrian soldiers were killed in Turkish drone strikes on Syria’s northwestern city of Idlib, according to media.
Media has quoted the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) as saying, the attacks targeted a military convoy and an army base in Idlib; as a result, at least nineteen Syrian militaries were killed.
It was reported that Turkey has also brought down two Syrian fighter jets on Sunday hours after forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad brought down a Turkish drone on the region.
The jets were shot down as they attempted to attack Turkish planes, Turkish Ministry of Defense said in statement, without giving further details.
Officials in Syria, however, said no one was hurt—the pilots landed safely using parachutes.
Tensions in Idlib escalated rapidly last week when at least 33 Turkish soldiers were killed in an air drone by Russian-backed Syrian government forces in the province.
