(TKG) ─ According to news agencies as reporting, the death toll of the coronavirus rose to 81 on Monday after which the Chinese government decided to extend the Lunar New Year holidays.

World news agencies have reported that the newly emerged coronavirus has so far killed 81 and infected thousands across China.

The total number of confirmed cases in China rose about 30% from the previous day, to 2,744, with about half in the central province of Hubei, the capital of which is Wuhan. But some experts suspect the number of infected people is much higher, Reuters news agency reported.

Cases of the virus were confirmed in other countries such as Thailand, Japan, France, Australia and several western countries, yet no case has been so far reported in Afghanistan.

In a new report, the Afghan Minister of Public Health, Feruzuddin Feruz, however, urged the Chinese Ambassador in Kabul not to allow the Afghan citizens who have recently traveled to China to return to Afghanistan.

The newly identified coronavirus spread first in central Wuhan city of China and is believed to have originated late last year in a Wuhan market illegally selling wildlife.
