Avalanche Kills Dozens in Pakistan-Administered Kashmir

(TKG) — According to media reports, at least 55 have been killed after avalanche and landslides hit Pakistan-administered Kashmir over the last 24 hours.

Over the last 24 hours, more than 50 residents of Pakistan-administered Kashmir have been killed and at least ten have been missing as a result of avalanches and landslides, officials said on Tuesday.

More than 110 people have been killed as a result of avalanches, flooding and harsh winter weather across Pakistan and in neighbouring Afghanistan in recent days, officials said on Tuesday [January 14, 2020].

According to reports from both countries, at least 75 people died and 64 were injured across Pakistan, with several missing, while a further 39 people were killed in Afghanistan.

Every year, dozens of people die and/or are being forced to evacuate their houses due to avalanches and landslides during the harsh days of winter.
