(TKG) ─ Torrential rain has caused deadliest flash floods in large parts of Indonesia’s capital and nearby towns, killing at least 21 people and forcing thousands more to evacuate.
It has been reported by world media as quoting from authorities, the death toll from flash floods and landslides in and around Indonesia’s capital Jakarta reached at least 21 on Thursday [January 2, 2019], with more heavy rain forecast.
Nearly 30,000 residents of Jakarta had been evacuated to temporary shelters throughout the city by Thursday morning, the authorities added.
Swathes of Jakarta and nearby towns were inundated after heavy rain fell on [Dec 31, 2019] and into the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Prior to this, more than 50 people died in one of the capital’s deadliest floods in 2007.
