It was issued in a statement by Pakistan Armed Forces on Tuesday [December 17, 2019] as questioning that “how a soldiers who served country could be considered a traitor.”

A statement issued by the Inter-Service Public Relations of Pakistan was quoted by Pakistani media on Wednesday [December 18, 2019] as saying that the high treason verdict against former Army chief Pervez Musharraf had been received with a “lot of pain and anguish by rank and file of Pakistan Armed Forces.”

The statement added, an ex-Army Chief, Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee and President of Pakistan, who has fought for over 40 years for the defense of the country can certainly never be a traitor.

According to the statement, it seems that the due legal processes including constitution of special court, denial of fundamental right of self-defense, undertaking individual specific proceedings and concluding the case in haste have been ignored.

The aforementioned statement followed a special court in Islamabad declaring Musharraf guilty of high treason for overriding the constitutional norms in 2007 when he declared a state of emergency.

Therefore, the court said Musharraf had betrayed his country so it sentenced him to death.
