The Trump administration is anticipated to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as terrorist group in just a week ahead, according to a United States official.
The designation decision formally comes in under the State Department’s purview, setting up another pace as part of the White House’s increasingly aggressive strategy towards Iran.
However this issue has remained controversial amongst the American officials to whether or not designate Iran as terrorist organization temporarily – sources though said the administration was considering several months to do so.
A spokesperson for the White House National Security Council declined to comment and the State Department did not respond to a request for comment, according to CNN.
It comes after the US late in March imposed new sanctions on a number of companies and individuals in Iran, saying it was aiding billions of dollars to Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard.
The US Treasury in a statement said it was blacklisting 25 people and entities associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, including banks and other financial institutions.
