United States Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad met with Provincial leaders, elderlies, women and civil society activists in Kandahar province, discussing a wide-range of talks around peace in the country.
He stressed the need for inclusion of all Afghans from different layers of the society, including women, adding it is “time to finally attain it [peace].”
“Today I visited #Kandahar, a city I’ve known since my youth. Getting outside of #Kabul is important to me,” said Khalilzad in a tweet Tuesday. “I met with civil society leaders who have long called for peace, and recognize that now is the time to finally attain it.”

Khalilzad explained the needs for meeting Afghans in various field, saying citizens plays fundamental role in building Afghanistan, and their presence are vital in the process.
“…Together we sat with provincial leaders, elders, women &activists to discuss their views, he said in a tweet late Tuesday. “All Afghans have a stake in shaping #Afghanistan’s future and we should welcome all of these voices in the #AfghanPeaceProcess.”

Previously, Khalilzad held meetings with Afghan government and representatives, as well as women in the capital city of Kabul, where they discussed their shared values and joint cooperation for better security in Afghanistan and urged to further push the process.
“Met with Kabul and provincial representatives of the Afghan Women’s Network @AWNKabul to discuss many issues, he said in a tweet late Monday. “While #Afghans alone will decide the composition of their delegation for talks, #women must be at the table during all negotiations about #peace & #Afghanistan’s future.”
