Taliban insurgents in an attempt targeting the Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum ambushed his Convoy on their way to Jowzjan province in north Afghanistan, Kanishka Turkistani, a close aide to Dostum confirmed.
Dostum was not hurt in the attack.
According to sources, at least one bodyguard of the Vice President was killed and two further wounded.
The Mazar-Sheberghan highway which connects the two provinces is 134 kilometers in length and needs a two-hour drive.
It comes at a time Dostum was heading to Jowzjan province, his hometown, to visit elderlies, making it a long-after a while trip on Saturday afternoon since he has lived the past roughly three years in Turkey.
He appeared at a gathering in Balkh and said that he will “eliminate” the Taliban from the north within six months if he is given the chance.
Meanwhile, Taliban in a statement claimed the attack and said four of Dostum’s guards were killed and six others wounded.

Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum returns home-country after a long while, landing in Shebirghan district of Jowzjan to visit elderlies in the province.
Dostum, who was living in Turkey, made an entry after roughly 2.5 years in the country.
Idres Barna, media officer for National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan said that Dostum entered Balkh province via Heratan, which is connected to Uzbekistan, and is due to meet elderlies in Shebirghan district of Northern Province.
The National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan, sometimes called simply Junbish, is an Uzbek political party in Afghanistan. Its founder and leader is General Abdul Rashid Dostum.
Although Jowzjan is a birth place for Dustom, but due do some controversies and complications he was not granted permission to visit his people in north.
