Ghani ‘Ready’ to Offer Office to Taliban

Afghan president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, during his visit to Nangarhar province on Sunday, said government is “ready” to provide an office to Taliban members and ensure their security in the capital.
This comes after the Moscow talks where some senior Afghan politicians and Taliban members negotiated to end the ongoing violence in Afghanistan; the Taliban leader, however, still refused to have peace talks with Afghan government.
“We want peace in Mecca. Is that satisfactory or Moscow?” asked Ghani. “The nation says that they (Afghan politicians and Taliban members) did not go to Mecca but they went to Moscow (for talks on peace); therefore, they should answer to this question.”
In order to bring a dignified and lasting peace in the country, Ghani reiterated that he is ready to pay a bigger sacrifice to the cost of his life for peace.
The presidential seat is not a heritage left “by my father and grandfather”, said Ghani in his speech as a respond to those questioning whether Ghani would compromise his position as the next president of Afghanistan.
Eliminating Taliban members’ name from the UN blacklist, releasing their prisoners and legitimizing an official office in the capital are the agreement set at the Moscow talks last week.
