A suicide bomber has detonated explosives near the office of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) in Jalalabad city of Nangarhar, where a number of protesters gathered, officials said.
The spokesman of Nangarhar governor, Ataullah Khogyani told Killid reporter that at least two people have been killed and four other injured were transferred to the hospital so far.
Khogyani noted that one of the injured is in a critical situation.
He added the blast took place at around 10:00am (local time) when the protesters had gathered in support of Jawid Zaman, a parliamentary candidate who electoral officials had disqualified over his suspected links with illegal armed groups.
No group has claimed responsibility behind the attack so far.
This comes as a suicide bomber also blew himself up outside the election office in the capital, Kabul, earlier this month when protesters gathered to challenge the commission’s decision to disqualify 35 candidates from contesting upcoming parliamentary polls.
