Faryab's Kohistan District Falls to Taliban
Security officials in Faryab said that Kohistan district in the province fell to the Taliban last night.
The officials said that eight Afghan soldiers including the district governor were killed and 15 injured during the clashes.
Taher Rahmani, head of Faryab provincial council, told Killid that security forces are surrounded by Taliban in the centre of the district in a castle.
Rahmani cautioned if the government does not send reinforcement troops, they will all die.
Jawed Bedar, spokesman for Faryab governor, confirmed killing of the district governor and falling of the district to Taliban.
He asserted that security forces are planning to clear the areas of insurgents.
This comes as the district had fallen to Taliban insurgents last year as well.
