Teachers of a primary school in the capital city of Baghlan province have been absent over the past three years, imparting nothing to hundreds of students.
Mohammad Akram Amarkhel, a tribal elder from Alikhel village of Pul-i-Khumri City, said the school teachers had been absent for the past three years.
He said he had many times shared the teachers’ absence issue with the education officials but no action was taken against them in three years.
Amarkhel warned parents would to stage protests if teachers of the school did not appear to impart lessons to students at the earliest.
“We thought the school has been closed, but we were wrong, salaries of the teachers and other staff of the school are paid but students are not taught there,” he said.
Dozens of children of Alikhel village said they are interested in education but there are no teachers in their school.
Naqibullah Sajjad, Baghlan acting education director, said they were unaware why teachers of the primary schools were not attending classes.
He said the school’s registered a staff included three teachers, a principle, a guard and hundreds of students.
All personnel of the school received salaries and privileges since the school’s establishment, he said, adding it was only two weeks ago when some teachers said they could no longer attend the school.
Sajjad said the education department would task a committee to find out the reason of teachers’ nonattendance and the school closure.
