The Taliban on Wednesday announced the launch of their spring offensive codenamed ‘Al Khandaq’
The movement’s military commission has planned the annual operations, a Taliban statement said, amid deadly attacks in the country.
According to the group, the operations beginning with the melting of snow — are aimed at killing and seizing Americans and their supporters.
In part, the militant movement said, was a response to US President Donald Trump’s new strategy for Afghanistan, giving US forces more freedom to chase terrorists.
The presence of US bases sabotaged all chances of peace and prolonged the ongoing war, the statement continued.
Last year’s offensive named after Mullah Akhtar Mansour, Taliban’s supreme leader who was killed in a US drone strike, had begun on April 28.
