As “a goodwill gesture”, the authorities in Baghlan province on Saturday announced allowing Taliban militants to bring their patients to government hospitals for treatment.
Abdul Hai Nimati, governor of Baghlan province, told a peace gathering in Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital, that the government was ready to come close to the Taliban. He ordered all government hospitals to receive Taliban militants for treatment and behaved good with them.
“We never want to kill Afghans and those killing us, we kindly request them to stop killing your own brothers and accept the peace proposal of the president and say welcome to peace process without any precondition.”
Nimati urged tribal elders and religious scholars to work for awareness among people to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
A participant of the event, who lived in an area under Taliban control, said he was happy over allowing Taliban militants to treat their patients in hospitals as the move would leave a positive impact on their thinking.
