Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan welcomed Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s offer to hold peace talks with the Taliban.
Ghani on Wednesday unveiled a plan to open peace parleys with Taliban, including the group’s recognition as a political party — days after the militants sought negotiations with the US.
Khan held a telephonic conversation with Afghan Ambassador Dr. Omar Zakhilwal and hailed Ghani’s offer to Taliban for peace on Friday.
A peaceful Afghanistan was in the greater benefit of Pakistan and the entire region, the former cricket legend said, stressing at every level to ensure resolution of the Afghan crisis.
He also requested Zakhilwal to convey his best wishes to Ghani. The ambassador confirmed the conversation with Imran Khan, but gave no details.
