Abdullah Heads to Geneva to Attend UN Human Rights Council

Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, leading a high-level government delegation, left Kabul to Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the 37th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council today.
While in Geneva, Abdullah is expected to meet with Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Norway and Switzerland, the President of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and Georgian Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze.

The session will open at 9 am on Monday, 26 February under the presidency of Ambassador Vojislav Šuc of Slovenia, with key statements delivered by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, the President of the United Nations General Assembly Miroslav Lajèák, and the Federal Councilor and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Ignazio Cassis.

The Council will then commence a three-day high-level segment, during which senior dignitaries from around 100 States and international and regional organisations will highlight human rights issues of national and international interest and concern.
