An eighteen-month-old child has been tested positive for polio virus in the Kama district of Nangarhar province.
Health officials in Nangarhar said that the child, Marwa, had frequently received anti-polio drops seven times but was not injected the vaccine.
Dr. Jan Mohammad, vaccination section head at the provincial public health department, said that Marwa’s family is resident of Kunar province, who used to live in Pakistan, and had recently returned home and resided in Kama district of Nangarhar.
According to the figures, 13 polio cases had been registered in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria are the only countries where polio is still prevalent.
