Meshrano Jirga (upper house of parliament) chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar on Sunday offered to serve as a mediator between Presidential Ashraf Ghani against former Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor and demanded the law to be enforced.
Few days back, President Ghani accepted Governor Atta Mohammad Noor’s resignation and announced Eng. Dawood as his replacement.
However, Dawood has not been formally introduced as the new governor so far. Noor has refused to accept the presidential decision, saying he had submitted his resignation last year based on certain conditions.
Addressing public gatherings in recent days, Noor said he was still the governor of Balk and would remain in that position in future as well.
A reliable government source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that the government was committed to replacing Noor at all costs.
Lawmaker Nisar Ahmad Haris said confrontation between the Presidential Palace and the former Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor was a matter of concern.
However, he said Noor in his Saturday’s address hinted at resolving the issue through talks.
The lawmaker demanded Senate Chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar to mediate between Noor and the president in the ongoing crisis.
Muslimyar demanded resolution of the problem through talks and said, “There is no need for confrontation. Everyone should act in the framework of law and avoid violation of law.”
He added coercion and intimidation was against the interest of the people and country and everyone should strive to implement the law. “I am ready to mediate between Noor and the Presidential Palace if needed.”
Referring to recent terrorist attacks, he said: “The Afghans have been the victim of wrong policies of political leadership.”
