Security officials in Paktika said that 14 Taliban insurgents were killed and nine others injured in security forces’ operation in the Giyan district of Paktika province.
Deputy Police Chief Col. Dadullah Khan Hotak told media that security forces conducted two- day ground offensive supported by airstrikes in the district.
Mohammad Alam, the resident of locality, said security forces patrol team came under attack on Thursday evening in the main district bazaar.
Sixteen militants were killed in the firefight and the insurgents bodies remained in the battle ground.
He added, Afghan forces suffered losses in the clash, but there was no information about the number of casualties.
He further stated that six civilians were killed and four injured in the firefight. Police, however, rejected civilian casualties in the firefight with rebels.
Taliban have not commented about the clash.
