HPC Delegation off to Indonesia on Six-day Official Visit

The High Peace Council (HPC) delegation led by Mohammad Karim Khalili will visit Jakarta, Indonesia from 19th to 25th November at the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
The visit was the follow-up of the discussion during the bilateral meeting between the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo and the President of the Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in Jakarta, early this year.
The expected visit of HPC is also conveyed during the Courtesy Call of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Retno L.P. Marsudi on the Chairman of High Peace Council Karim Khalili in Kabul, on 6th November 2017.
The purpose of the visit was to have exchange of views and share lesson learnt, and reinforce the both countries’ experience dealing with peace process, reconciliation efforts and reintegration mechanism.
Indonesia could share its experiences dealing with armed conflict, such as in Aceh Province, and communal conflict such as in Ambon, Moluccas Province.
The Government of Indonesia may have the experience that might be suitable with the circumstances in Afghanistan in seeking out constructive mechanism to deal with armed opposition groups, gauging interest and scope for potential peace settlement negotiation efforts.
During the HPC visit to Jakarta, the president of Indonesia will receive them in the Presidential Palace in Bogor, Indonesia and the Vice President of Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Jusuf Kalla would also conduct dialogue with HPC delegates.
Their programme also include to have a meeting with Governor of Aceh Province, convening dialogue with Indonesian Islamic Organisation, visiting worship places and Darunnaja Islamic boarding school, as well as the State Islamic University (UIN) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
As the world’s most populous Muslim nation and have the deep-rooted historical friendship with Afghanistan, Indonesia remained committed to support Afghanistan in the peace process and reconciliation and stood ready to “offer whatever Indonesia can do to contribute to peace-building in Afghanistan”.
This visit constituted the second opportunity for HPC to visit Indonesia after the first visit of High Peace Council led by (the late) H.E. Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani, was made on 18-19 July 2011.
