Tens of speech-impaired people staged a demonstration in Nangarhar yesterday, demanding their rights.
They said 3,000 speech-impaired individuals were registered in their association from the eastern region.
Gathering in front of the governor’s house in Jalalabad, they warned of not moving until their rights were given.
Using hand gestures, the special individuals explained their demands including work and other rights enshrined in the Constitution.
Faroq, one of the speech-impaired persons, who has studied up to bachelor’s degree, said he worked as labourer. He said he accepted hard labor hardship to overcome his problems but he could not do so.
“They should at least test us, if we are not able to succeed, then we would not complain, but people make fun when I offer my CV for a job,” he said.
The protestors in their resolution letter demanded their rights as per the Constitution. They also sought help from civil society institutes, media and the government.
