The US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is expected to underline US President Donald Trump’s strategy on Afghanistan and South Asia during his visit to India today.
According to The Economic Times, this will be with an eye on stabilising Afghanistan and establishing a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific to counter-balance an expansionist China.
“We expect Pakistan to take decisive action against terrorist groups based there that threaten its own people and the broader region,” Tillerson said during a recent speech at Washington’s Centre for Strategic and International Studies.
The Trump administration has put India as the key player in its Afghan strategy – a point that was also underlined by US Defence Secretary James Mattis during his visit to India last month, according to officials.
