NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg described the situation in Afghanistan as challenging while addressing a plenary session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NPA), which is made up of parliamentarians from NATO allies and partners. Stoltenberg said that NATO has played a role in the fight against terrorism for many years. He added that today NATO has around 13,000 troops from 39 different NATO and partner countries in Afghanistan training Afghan security forces and helping them to fight terrorism and stabilise their own country. He further stated that there is a renewed commitment in the organisation’s efforts in Afghanistan.
