Ata Mohammad Noor, governor of Balkh, said that at least 40 Taleban insurgents were killed in a military operation launched to clear Chamtal and Charbolak districts of Taleban insurgents. Noor added that seven Afghan soldiers were also killed. Noor further stated that they will establish permanent security check posts in Chamtal district. Meanwhile Zabiullah Mujahid, a so-called Taleban spokesman, claimed that 17 Afghan soldiers were killed and over 10 injured in Chamtal district. Charbolak and Chamtal are disturbed districts of Balkh where Taleban insurgents are actively operating.
