Local officials in Kandahar said that at least one person was killed and 20 injured in two successive explosions last night. They said that the first blast happened about 8:30 pm in Kandahar city in which the Kandahar city police district 14th chief was killed and 20 others including four policemen were injured. Zia Durrani, spokesman for Kandahar police, said that the first explosion targeted the police district chief. He said the first blast was caused by a magnetic bomb planted in a car and the second went off as police rushed to the site of the first blast. No group has claimed responsibility for the back-to-back blasts.
