MPs From Badakhshan, Kunduz Warn Situation Serious

The news of displacement and war in the country’s north has been hitting the headlines. A number of Members of Parliament (MPs) from Kunduz and Badakhshan are reporting there is an escalation in the war and conflict in the provinces. Last year experts and commentators had warned of the possibility and urged the government to launch winter operations against Taleban.  Nilofar Ibrahimi, MP from Badakhshan, says that if the government does not pay serious attention to the security issue in the province, all of Badakhshan could fall to Taleban insurgents. She warned that the collapse of Badakhshan may mean the collapse of Afghanistan. Kunduz too faces serious security threats. MPs from the province claim that the government has not been able to deal with the threat. Shukria Paikan, MP from Kunduz, said that Khan Abad and Qalai Zal districts are facing high security threats and if the government does not pay serious attention to the districts, they are likely to fall to Taleban militants.
