Hizb-e-Islami announced that the first group of their prisoners in government jails will be set free on Friday. A press release from Hizb-e-Islami stated that the release is based on the peace agreement signed between the Afghan government and the party last year in September. The statement did not specify the exact number of prisoners to be released, but earlier Afghan government had said some 70 prisoners will be released. Meanwhile strict security measures for Hekmatyar’s protection have been rolled out in two eastern provinces and Kabul. A source from Hizb-e-Islami speaking on the condition of anonymity told Killid that Hekmatyar will appear within a day or two among the people.
