US National Security Adviser HR McMaster assured his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar of US support to the people of Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism. In a phone conversation, he said the US will continue to stand with the Afghan people. A press release from Afghan National Security Council (NSC) stated that Gen. McMaster condemned the deadly attack on the Afghan army base in Balkh and conveyed the deepest sorrow of the US president to Afghan government and people. Meanwhile National Security Adviser Atmar said that Afghan security forces need more mobilisation and reinforcement along with continued NATO support.
