Another Earth Day is upon us and government officials once again talk about the need to protect the planet, an issue that is promptly forgotten a day later. April 22 is celebrated worldwide as International Earth Day. In Afghanistan, the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) urged people to pay serious attention to the protection of earth. Nasir Ahmad Durrani, minister of MRRD said that we should joint hands for the protection of the earth. Gulam Mohammad Malikyar, technical deputy at Afghanistan’s National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), warned that if the situation of the planet continues to deteriorate there will be no green cover left and oxygen in the atmosphere will deplete. Palwasha Amini, a student at Rangen Kaman painting school, said that she has painted the marvels of nature to convey to viewers a message of caring for the environment. She said that the beauty of the earth depicted in her paintings carries an underlying message: do not hurt the planet. Meanwhile environmentalists believe that technological advancements have changed the environment. Climate change and global warming are the results.
