Singapore to Help Afghanistan in Education, good governance

Singapore President Tony Tan Ken Yam in a visit with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said that his country is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in areas such as education, good governance, and capacity building. A press release from ARG (presidential palace) stated that President Ghani on Friday said that terrorism and drug smuggling threatens the region’s and world’s security, stability, and development and needs a joint fight. The statement added that Tony Tan said that his country wants to expand and strengthen friendly relations with Afghanistan. Several memorandum of understanding was signed during the visit. Mr. Lee and Ghani also discussed opportunities for collaboration in areas such as public service training and anti-corruption measures, and exchanged views on national and regional developments, Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said. They expressed support for the efforts by the international community in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, it added. Singaporean media reported that Ghani also received a briefing on Singapore’s public housing policy and development at the Housing and Development Board and is due to speak about trade and investment opportunities in Afghanistan at a National University of Singapore dialogue before departing Singapore on Friday night.
