Russia Emphasises Cooperation in Peace and Economy in Afghanistan

Afghan National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov yesterday in Moscow and discussed cooperation between the two countries. Both sides discussed cooperation in the trade, economic, and humanitarian spheres. Russian media reported that Sergey Lavrov said that we help to strengthen the combat capability of the Afghan security forces and the Afghan army with a view to ensuring security in Afghanistan. A press release from the Afghan National Security Council (NSC) sent to media stated that Atmar told Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that Kabul considers Moscow an important regional ally and Russia’s role in the fight against terrorism is invaluable. Meanwhile Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that it is very important for us to continue talking about ways to promote a national reconciliation in Afghanistan. This comes as earlier Afghanistan asked Russia to participate in the restoration of 124 facilities important for the national economy.
