Local officials in Kandahar reported that they have retaken 30,000 acres of land from land grabbers. They said that the lands were taken over almost 20 years ago by powerful people in Zherai district of the province. Jamal Agha, district governor, said they have prepared a plan in cooperation with the provincial organs for the restored land. He added that the land would be placed at the disposal of people so that its profit goes to the government and people. Meanwhile Samim Ekhpelwak, spokesman for Kandahar governor, said that 34,000 acres of land have been taken back from the grabbers in the central and districts of the province. He said that efforts have been under way since October last year to restore public land from land grabbers.
