A United Nation special envoy arrived in Pakistan on Monday to reduce tensions between Islamabad and Kabul following a surge of terrorist attacks in country that claimed over 100 lives in a few days. Pakistan Foreign Ministry said in a statement, “UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Tadamichi Yamamoto met Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and discussed the situation in Afghanistan and efforts for promoting long-term peace and stability in that country.” Pakistani media reported that Tadamichi Yamamoto called on Tariq Fatemi at Islamabad, amid reports that Pakistan has moved heavy artillery towards Chaman and Torkham districts close to the Afghan border. Their discussion focused on the situation in Afghanistan and efforts to promote peace and stability in that country, Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria said in a statement. Following the attacks, Pakistan Closed Torkham, Ghulam Khan, and Spinboldak border ports.
