Taleban Wants Girls’ Schools Closed in Farah

Taleban has sent an official letter to school principals in Farah province to shut down girls’ school in the province. Mohammad Saber Farooqi, provincial director of education department, told Killid that Taleban has contacted five school principals via phone in the province. Farooqi asserted that closure of the five schools would deprive some 3,000 students of education. He added that Taleban has used the excuse of plastic skeletons in school laboratories as a pretext for closure of the schools. Farooqi further called Taleban enemy of Afghans and education and said that they want to create terror, and intimidation among students to hinder their education. According to Farooqi, provincial education department in cooperation with schools’ principals and tribal elders are trying to solve the problem. This comes as reports from the west of the country suggest that 180 schools are closed for students in the zone and some 34,000 students are deprived of education.
