Ministry of Education (MoE) announced that 9.2 million Afghan children are enrolled in schools across the country of whom 39 percent are girls. A press release from office of chief executive sent to Killid stated that the figure for 2016 was provided by the Minister of Education Asadullah Hanif Balkhi who was addressing a plenary session of council of ministers yesterday. He said 3.5 children were not in the school system. In addition, Balkhi said 17,482 schools and seminaries were active across the country. He also said there were 199,761 teachers in government schools and 39,920 teachers in private schools. The minister further stated that lack of professional teachers, school buildings and budget were the main challenges that the ministry was facing. Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah has promised to address the challenges and problems of education ministry soon.
