Security officials from east of the country reported that 11 children were injured in a mine explosion in Nangarhar today. A press release from 201 Selab Corps sent to Killid stated that the children were injured in Deh Bala district. The statement blamed Daesh militants for planting the mines and added that the injured were transferred to Nangarhar hospital. Daesh militants are yet to comment on the statement. This comes as UNAMA expressed concerns over civilian casualties specially children yesterday. “Children are once again the main victims of these indiscriminate and illegal weapons,” said Pernille Kardel, the secretary-general’s deputy special representative for Afghanistan. “There is a simple message to the perpetrators: stop using these weapons if you are serious about safeguarding Afghanistan’s civilians and the country’s future generation.”
